S:t Johannes Congregation in Malmö is seeking a church custodian with primary duties in S:t Johannes Church and the parish hall.

S:t Johannes is a distinct city church in the heart of Malmö, located at the Triangeln station, which connects the city center with the outskirts and Copenhagen. The church is an oasis, a spiritual meeting place, and a space for conversations, devotions, celebrations, and tranquility. Here, the church aims to address urban dwellers' existential questions about life and faith. The main service is a focal point, and extensive music activities with choirs, organ playing, and a large number of high-class church concerts fill the church space every week, along with art exhibitions, discussions, and other cultural expressions.

S:t Johannes Congregation also includes S:t Matteus and S:t Pauli churches, where you may serve as needed.

What does the position entail?

Being a church custodian in S:t Johannes Congregation means meeting people of all ages and life situations. Every day, throughout the year, the church is visited by worshippers, tourists, concert-goers, or people seeking a moment of peace. Your work may therefore involve everything from welcoming visitors, arranging for a concert, making purchases, or preparing for a main service. Some work with the facilities in the adjacent parish hall is also included.

As a church custodian, you are responsible for a variety of tasks that encompass both practical and technical aspects. You serve during worship services and church ceremonies, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and that the technical systems function as they should.

Another part of your job is to coordinate and prepare concerts and cultural events. This means you work closely with artists, musicians, and guest performers, as well as organizing and coordinating part-time custodians to ensure that events run as smoothly as possible.

You are also responsible for technical systems such as stage, sound, and lighting technology, both during worship services and other events. Additionally, you will be involved in purchasing food for activities and maintaining facilities such as furniture arrangement and cleaning.

It is also your responsibility to manage technical systems such as alarms and fire safety, as well as to care for and maintain the congregation's cultural-historical artifacts.

The job of a church custodian requires a good ability to plan, communicate, and provide service, while also involving physical work. You are a central part of the congregation's activities and ensure that everything functions smoothly during both everyday activities and larger events.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting people, likes solving problems, is meticulous, and appreciates working both independently and collaboratively.

You can maintain communication with guest artists, performers, musicians, etc., from resource planning to execution in the church.

You have experience and knowledge of stage, sound, and lighting technology at public events.

Experience and engagement in the life and activities of the Church of Sweden is a plus.
